The story behind the image:
I found this in my driveway as I stepped out of my car. As a kid we knew these as ?helicopter seeds? and the street I grew up on, was lined with them. This is the first time I had a variety of choice when choosing which seed would be photographed, as the floor was littered with them in varying states of decomposition.
The very linear structure of the veins reminded me of ripples in sand. Even its colouring was reminiscent of the desert. I am fascinated by the dichotomy of the desert. It is vast and empty as well as being simultaneously full of detail and unexpected life. I struggled to decide just how many silhouettes to add to this scene as the desert is both empty and full of life. In the end I decided while there is a lot of life in the desert in the form of snakes, scorpions, lizards and beetles they are however for the most part invisible and hidden.
